    Wildfire Mitigation Affordability Act

    Tackles one of the biggest barriers to home hardening: cost. It creates a state-backed financing program that would leverage roughly $8–12 in private investment for every $1 of state funding.

  • SB 1079 (Stern) · Megafire Action-sponsored

    Fire Innovation Unit Act

    Creates a dedicated unit to test and rapidly deploy emerging wildfire technology, building on Newsom's recent push to expand tools like FireSat.

    Wildfire County Coordinator Program

    Expands a successful CAL FIRE pilot that gives communities dedicated capacity to turn state wildfire funding and priorities into projects on the ground.

    Transfer of Real Property in Fire Hazard Severity Zones

    Requires defensible space compliance inspections, or documentation showing compliance, of properties within the first year following a sale.

  • AB 1699 (Rogers)

    Good Fire Act

    Makes the Prescribed Fire Liability Pilot Program permanent, ensuring good fire can be used in the landscapes that benefit from it to meet the state’s land treatment goals.

    Beneficial Fire Capacity Program

    Requires CAL FIRE to use at least 10% of its received Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund dollars on beneficial fire projects.

    Home Hardening Certification Program

    Requires the State Fire Marshal to develop a home hardening certification program.

  • AB 1960 (Bennett)

    Wildfire Prevention Grants Program

    Allows CAL FIRE to disburse wildfire prevention grant dollars to cohesive fire communities that partner with fire safe councils on prevention work.

    Home Hardening

    Directs the State Fire Marshal to identify home hardening standards and estimate how many homes in fire hazard severity zones meet those standards.
